The Core Pocket Media Player is an open-source media player for Windows CE / Windows Mobile-based devices. The Core Pocket Media Player is a free, open source multimedia player which I’d recommend to anyone who wants to watch video on their Pocket PC. That said, if portable video is your heart’s desire, it would definitely be worth investing in a device built specifically for video playback which will provide much better overall quality.

Total Commander
This file system explorers is a must-have if you want to perform more than just basic file operations. There is one single, and two two window modes, one with split window and one “virtual 2 window” mode, where you switch between the two using a small button, and you can also have a tree view of the Pocket PC’s file system. It supports Tap&Hold, Drag&Drop, handles ZIP files and lets you do any change to the file’s properties (date, time, attributes) you want. A file find is also included, as well as the possibility to beam files via infrared. With only 170kB, the size is very convenient, only network file access and file password protection would be nice to have. But we can always hope for the next update.

It is possible to schedule a backup, each day of the week and this at a specific hour. If the pocket pc is suspended, it will wake up and do the backup. You can eventually control the number of backups to keep and switch off the pocket pc after the scheduled backup is finished.
