Got 576MB RAM On HTC HD2 Now Boost Its Performance

Although HTC disclosed only 448MB of RAM on HTC HD2, but it actually has 576MB of RAM which is unlocked by powerusers over at XDA. With this extra ram, performance of the device can be increased further. User g.lewarne has posted a few tips to increase the performance of HD2.

These tips are meant to run HTC Sense more smoother, improves album art scrolling in landscape mode, much smoother font rendering. Also the ever lagging opening of the Windows folder is shortened to only half a second.

He also cautioned that this is only for devices with 576MB RAM & unsuitable for 1.66 roms as will necessitate a hard reset.

Workaround To Fix HD2 Camera Bright Picture Mode

HTC HD2 is a great devices full of features but it does have its share of shortcomings, HTC have been releasing hotfixes for major issues but after HTC has announced that there’ll not be any more camera updates by them, one shortcoming is still there to be patched i.e. Camera taking extreme bright, high contrast pictures of the subject. Users of the device have been contacting HTC about it but they are replied with various responses. One of them is:

Dear Richard,

Thank you for your reply. To the best of our knowledge, this issue is software related. If you believe your device is damaged at a hardware level, please call our Technical Support line, whereby one of our agents will be pleased to arrange a repair.

Now who is to blame here?

Well one user alibehzad over at xda has posted a workaround to this issue, he explains it as:

Install the app TorchButton (112)
Launch Torch from start menu, which turn on the flash light.
Open Camera and disable flash. Torch button Flash still stays on and the camera now meters the current brightness and doesnt add any bright mode anymore.

No More Camera Updates For HD2 By HTC

HTC have been releasing Hotfixes for HTC HD2 like it was an unfinished product. After releasing hotfix for the pink spot issue in the camera HTC is saying that they will not be releasing anymore updates for the HD2 camera. User ZaZu90 over at xda contacted HTC asking them some questions, including the over contrasted pictures and whitebalance issues in the camera, oh and the pink tone as well. Here is their reply :

“Regarding the camera issue, kindly be informed that unfortunately there will not be any other updates for this issue but it is recommended that you follow the steps below to minimize the effect of this issue:

1. Under certain lighting conditions, especially indoors, the color of your picture may be tinted. In order to prevent this, try to ensure you have the flash enabled and enough ambient light to take pictures. To enable the flash, please press HOME, and then slide to Pictures and Video. In the top right of the screen press the Camera icon to launch the camera. Your phone will automatically rotate into landscape mode. Then press the lightning bolt to turn on the flash.
If your phone has less than 30% power remaining, your flash has been automatically disabled to prevent users from accidentally using their remaining battery life while using the camera. Please charge your phone to over 30% to re-enable the flash.

2. You may consider turning down the saturation on your camera. Turning the saturation down will remove the reddish tint from the center of the photograph.
To turn down saturation please press HOME, then slide to the Photos and Videos tab. Tap the Photo Icon > Menu Icon in the lower right corner > Gears Icon (settings) > Advanced Icon > then tap the right arrow 2 times to go to page 3. Then tap Image Properties > Saturation > then press the “-“(minus) icon to adjust saturation.”

He also asked about the low battery life and they replied:

As for the Battery issue, kindly follow the steps below to check that the batter of your handset is working fine:
1. Charge the battery to 100%.
2. Start > Settings > System tab >Task Manager,Disable from running or uninstall any 3rd party applications
3. Start > Wireless controls, disable all connectivity (Data/Wi Fi/Bluetooth),
4. Start > Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Advanced> Power mode , put Power save Mode to “Best battery”
5. Start > Settings > Power > Backlight, select Auto adjust backlight
6. Start > Settings > Power > Advanced, check Turn off backlight if device is not in use and choose the timeout as 10 seconds.
7. Start > Settings >Personal > Phone > Network, set network type to Auto
8. Let phone stay idle for 1 hour and check battery capacity.

As for the Arabic language, kindly be informed that a Rom upgrade including the Arabic language is due to be released for HTC branded handsets around the 15th of this month.

Windows Mobile 6.6 to Launch at MWC Next Month

According to the sources at Digitimes, Microsoft is set to launch Windows Mobile 6.6 (codename Maldives) sometime in February of this year. If this rumor regarding Windows Mobile 6.6 turns out to be true, then we could see it debut as early as next month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Sales of Windows Mobile 6.5 have been flat since the platform was launched in the fourth quarter of 2009, pushing Microsoft to bring forward Windows Mobile 6.6, which supports capacitive touchscreens, the sources noted.

Don’t expect Windows Mobile 6.6 to amaze you though. This version is most likely going to be the same as WinMo 6.5.3 except for the version number. They might have decided to launch this as an interim release to support capacitive touchscreen devices like HD2, until the major version Windows Mobile 7 is ready for primetime.

Microsoft is also expected to unveil (features and plans) Windows Mobile 7 at the MWC next month. The devices with Windows Mobile 7 however wont ship before Q4 2010. [via Gizmodo]

MultiTouch Air Hockey Game For HTC HD2

MultiTouch is awesome, it provides endless possibilities. As of now not much applications & games support this technology but new apps are coming which uses this power. In this series a new Air Hockey game is being developed which supports multitouch & is multiplayer i.e. two users can play simultaneously on the same device.

I have tested it on HTC HD2, it needs that the two players must touch the screen at the same time able to move in multiplayer, but has a serious bug that the ball gets stuck in the upper left corner as soon as the the ball is touched. All in all its now playable at the moment but the developers are working on the fix, which will make it a great game.
